Current view of WordPress
After a few hours exploring the world of WordPress, I’ve identified a couple of pros and cons:
- I have been surprised by how difficult it is to find out simple things about the system, such as how to add a forum; this is basically because the documentation is poorly organised and search systems within the WordPress.org site seem to be rubbish - search for a plugin, and you are unlikely to find it.
- I got quite excited by the magazine-style themes that are available, both free and commercial, and am sure we could produce a cool and efficient site using one of them.
- But I am increasingly unhappy about a system that needs add-ons to manage users, mailing lists and forums.
Time to shift my attention to ExpressionEngine.
